Graphite on textured ghesso and board
Overall, my explorations over the summer have been successful and it’s a style I will return to in the future. It has been frustrating at times when the surface has prevented me from being as neat in my usual detailed style but overall I am pleased with the results and plan to take this further.

Graphite and watercolour on tissue paper and PVA on cartridge paper
This was inspired by the cracks on the cliffs in St Ives bay at sunset.
The sky begs to be painted here at sunset when the sun, sea and sky turns wonderful golds, oranges and crimsons. I take my camera, sketchbook and a big flask of hot chocolate and settle down for the evening - much better than TV!!

Graphtint pencil over graphite powder & gum arabic on textured paper 20 x 20cm
I love textures – smooth, sandy, wooly, shiney, rough, wet ….. and I love capturing them with my pencil.
Over the summer I prepared several sheets of paper to create various textures to explore working my detailed drawings into a textured surface.

Graphite drawings
St Mary’s Church, Thornbury.
This is a beautiful Tudor church sits along side Thornbury castle. Built in the reign of Henry VIII – although parts are believed to go back to the 12th century, it was used by the King and his wife, Anne Boleyn and his daughter Mary Tudor lived there for a time. The large drawing looks down the churchfrom the altar towards the old carved wooden pews and one of the magnficent stained glass windows.
These drawings were made for my son and his fiance’s wedding stationary for his marriage in August 2009
